Thunder forward Jalen Williams stretchered off after lower-leg injury in win over Clippers
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams was taken to the locker room on a stretcher following a lower-leg injury late in the game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and the team will assess his status on Monday.
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams suffered a lower-leg injury with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Thunder's 112-106 home victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. After driving to the rim and colliding with Clippers wing Derrick Jones Jr. and guard Kris Dunn, Williams' left leg folded and he was unable to stand.
Medical staff attended to Williams on the court for several minutes before he was placed on a stretcher and taken to the locker room. The league later assessed Kris Dunn with a flagrant-1 foul for his role in the play.
Thunder teammates and opponents reacted visibly, with several players covering their faces and the arena falling silent before fans began chanting Williams' name. Williams signaled his appreciation to the crowd with a thumbs-up as he was escorted off the floor.
"I don’t even know, just feel bad for him," Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said in a post-game interview. "It’s obviously going to be tough without a player like that, but he’ll be back."
Coach Mark Daigneault added, "We’ll come in Monday and get everyone together, but at this point we just have to allow ourselves to feel the way we do."
The Thunder have not provided a definitive injury update, indicating that Williams' status will be reviewed on Monday. The team, which is pursuing a second championship, also dealt with injuries to guard Cason Wallace (left shoulder) and forward Jaylin Williams (wrist) during the same game.
