Air quality in Singapore remains unhealthy in most regions as PSI stays elevated

Résumé

On Sunday, most of Singapore recorded unhealthy PSI levels, while PM2.5 concentrations stayed within normal limits across all regions.

Air quality across Singapore was largely unhealthy on Sunday, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranging from 107 to 132 in most regions. Only the southern part recorded a PSI of 100, placing it in the good to moderate band. Hourly PM2.5 measurements, however, were within the normal range nationwide, varying between 31 and 48 micrograms per cubic metre.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) had forecasted Sunday’s 24-hour PSI to fall between 80 and 130, covering both good to moderate and unhealthy categories. It noted that southwest or west winds were expected, which could limit the transport of haze smoke to the island. The agency also indicated that showers over Singapore and nearby areas were likely to aid in improving haze conditions.

"Winds are expected to blow from the southwest or west, which could limit transport of smoke haze to Singapore," the NEA said.

"With showers expected over Singapore and the vicinity, the haze situation is likely to improve," the agency added.

The same wind pattern is projected to continue on Monday and Tuesday, supporting the expectation of further improvement in air quality.
