Twelve injured, including children, in shooting near Florida A&M homecoming game

Résumé

A shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium injured 12 people, six of them minors, as homecoming festivities were underway.

A shooting outside Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium injured 12 people on Saturday evening, including six minors, officials said. Police reported that 11 of the victims were shot, with three sustaining serious injuries and one minor in serious condition, while the remaining victims are in stable condition.

Chief Lawrence Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department told reporters that the incident appeared to involve an altercation between two or three individuals and that investigators believe a single shooter was involved.

"Our priority is to determine what happened and why it happened, and to bring the people that are responsible for this to justice," Revell said, urging witnesses to come forward.

The gunfire occurred around 8 p.m. at an intersection adjacent to the stadium, shortly after Florida A&M hosted Arkansas-Pine Bluff for its annual homecoming football game. The university posted a statement on X asking the campus community to avoid the area and expressed sympathy for those affected. Florida State University, located about a mile away, issued an emergency alert advising students, faculty and staff to remain indoors and stay alert.

Revell also thanked officers who responded quickly, noting that they helped transport victims despite not knowing the shooters' locations or the full extent of the injuries. The investigation remains ongoing, and police continue to seek information from witnesses.
