A shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee resulted in 11 people being wounded late Saturday, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a press conference. The victims included six juveniles, one of whom was an 11-year-old, and a student at the university. A victim’s grandmother was also injured while fleeing the scene.
One person remains in critical condition, three are listed as seriously injured, and the remaining seven are in stable condition. Police indicated the incident likely stemmed from an altercation involving two to three individuals, and the department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
"We’re still working the scene. Our detectives, our sergeants, our forensic personnel are all on scene and processing this as we go, taking in as much information as they can. This is an ongoing investigation," Revell said.
"As our detectives work to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible, we remain committed to getting answers for these families."
The shooting occurred hours after a homecoming football game in which Arkansas–Pine Bluff defeated Florida A&M 31-28. Authorities have not confirmed a link between the game and the shooting.
Florida A&M issued a statement acknowledging the incident and advising the public to avoid the area while law enforcement continues its investigation.
