Audi CEO Gernot Doellner told reporters, "We are planning to bring our biggest and most premium SUVs, and produce them here in Macon, Georgia. This is a long-term investment because we believe in the American market."
According to a U.S. official, the facility will assemble the Audi Q7, Q8 and Q9 models. Audi also announced a separate plan to build 25,000 vehicles per year at a $2 billion plant for its off-road brand Scout Motors in Blythewood, South Carolina.
Republican Senator Bernie Moreno said the Georgia plant would not have been possible without the administration's tariffs and regulatory policies.
Audi's U.S. sales have declined for two consecutive years, falling 7% in the first half of 2026, while the company faces competition in China and the impact of tariffs. The German automaker also noted that its Neckarsulm plant in Germany could be at risk after 2030.
The announcement comes ahead of competitive Senate and gubernatorial races in Georgia, as the administration highlights the project as evidence of the economic effects of recent trade policies.
