Despite criticism, Warriors forward Yaxel Lendeborg said he will continue his on-court banter with Luka Dončić and received support from coach Steve Kerr and teammate Draymond Green.

Golden State Warriors rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg said he will not stop his verbal sparring with Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić after the two exchanged remarks during the teams' season-opening loss. Lendeborg told reporters that, at 24, he is "living the dream" and will speak his mind, adding that his comments may have been "overboard in the media" but were meant as "fun trash talk."

In the opening game, Dončić scored 23 points in the first half, but only two came while Lendeborg was his primary defender. The rookie was assessed a technical foul before Dončić hit a buzzer-beating shot at halftime. After the game, Lendeborg claimed he told Dončić he "sucks" and said he had lost respect for the Slovenian star after seeing his play firsthand.

Head coach Steve Kerr said he appreciates Lendeborg's competitiveness, noting that the rookie must back up his words with performance and keep the focus on team success. Kerr also warned that individual comments should not distract from the Warriors' recent 127-point loss. Veteran forward Draymond Green praised Lendeborg's willingness to stand up to opponents, calling the attitude a sign of a true competitor.

Lendeborg, the 11th overall pick, also commented on his recent matchup against fellow rookie Cameron Boozer, acknowledging Boozer's strong play and noting that both recorded their first double-doubles in the game.
