Meghan Markle expressed a sense of relief that Philippine authorities are investigating child abuse allegations against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., after years of legal silence.

Meghan Markle said she feels a "real sense of relief" that police in Cebu City, Philippines are now investigating child sexual abuse allegations against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., who is 82. The investigation follows a report that her brother, Thomas Markle Jr., discovered child sexual abuse material in their father's home and turned it over to local authorities.

A source close to the Duchess of Sussex, speaking on her behalf, described her as "utterly devastated" by the accusations and emphasized that her primary concern is the welfare of any children who may have been harmed. The source added that Markle has been guided by legal advice, which limited her public comments, and that she appreciates the media attention that has brought the issue to light.

Meghan previously received a letter in early 2019 alleging that her father possessed child sexual abuse material and had traveled to the Philippines and Thailand to abuse children. She said the letter contributed to her estrangement from him. Thomas Markle Sr. has denied the allegations, calling them "sick lies," while his son maintains that evidence will confirm the claims once examined by police experts.

Representatives for Markle did not respond to a request for comment.
