Troy Aikman Signals Openness to Work With Dallas Cowboys Amid Broadcasting Uncertainty

Resumen

Former quarterback Troy Aikman said he would meet with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about possible front-office roles as his ESPN contract nears its end.

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, who has served as a consultant for the Miami Dolphins while also working for Monday Night Football, indicated he is willing to discuss a role with Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones. In an interview with Mike Fisher, Aikman said he would meet with Jones at any time, noting their long-standing relationship that began when he was the Cowboys’ first draft pick at age 22.

"I would have lunch, breakfast, or dinner with Jerry any time he wants it. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be because it’s a job interview… Our relationship is complicated, but it is built on respect," Aikman told Fisher.

Jones responded at the NFL owners’ quarterly meeting, praising Aikman’s capabilities.

"Troy is very capable, and he’s relatively young in his career. He could be qualified and competent in any football-related area," Jones said.

Aikman’s consulting position with the Dolphins remains undefined, and NFL rules now limit his access to other teams’ facilities before Monday night games. He also reflected on his impending departure from ESPN, expressing appreciation for his broadcasting career and uncertainty about future opportunities.

"As I’m into my last year at ESPN, I’m realizing this is something that could be taken away from me. It’s been a great ride and I hope it’s not over," Aikman said.

With CBS planning to replace Tony Romo with J.J. Watt, Aikman’s prospects for a high-profile broadcasting role appear limited, prompting him to explore front-office possibilities with the Cowboys or other NFL clubs.
