Summary

Rep. Ilhan Omar asserted that her correct legal name is Ilhan Abdullahi Omar after a federal filing listed her under a different surname linked to her former husband.

Rep. Ilhan Omar told Fox News Digital that her "real name" is "Ilhan Abdullahi Omar" after a Washington, D.C. federal court filing identified her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi," a name that matches that of her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Omar was observed at the Karmel Mall of Somalia in Minnesota entering a mosque for Friday prayers.

Federal prosecutors referred to the Minnesota Democrat as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar" in a Wednesday filing related to an immigration fraud investigation. The filing noted that the name used reflected evidence gathered so far in the probe.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro filed a motion seeking to keep a federal search warrant for Omar's Washington residence sealed, arguing that the warrant execution is not yet complete.

"Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, you know it," Omar said when asked about her name.

A spokesperson for Omar denied the claim that her legal name is "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi," calling the reports "completely false" and rejecting allegations that she was married to her brother as a "disgusting conspiracy theory."

The investigation, which includes a raid on Omar's D.C. home by Homeland Security Investigations, also involves subpoenas to family members and seizure of her cellphone. If a court determines that Omar used a different name on official documents, all such filings could be subject to further review, according to a former Minnesota federal immigration judge.
