Commanders' QB Jayden Daniels' Knee Injury Leaves Status Uncertain for Upcoming Game

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a knee injury during the team's 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Head coach Dan Quinn stated that Daniels has begun his return-to-play process and is considered day-to-day.

Quinn did not specify the nature of the injury but mentioned that Daniels underwent an MRI on Friday. For Daniels to be available for the upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders, he must meet all the necessary markers in his return-to-play protocol, including demonstrating sufficient leg strength and the ability to change direction without issue.

The injury occurred during a fourth-quarter scramble when Daniels attempted to evade pressure but took a low hit from safety Javon Bullard, causing him to flip in the air. Despite reaching for his left knee after the play, Daniels remained in the game and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass two plays later.

Daniels continued to play but was visibly in discomfort, limping after subsequent scrambles. He was seen with ice taped around his knee in the locker room post-game and limped into the media room later that night. When asked about his physical condition, Daniels responded, "I'm good."

Coach Quinn emphasized the importance of making an informed decision regarding Daniels' participation in the upcoming game, stating that the team will take the decision up to Friday. If Daniels is unable to play, veteran backup Marcus Mariota will step in.

In addition to Daniels' injury, running back Austin Ekeler suffered an Achilles injury, and starting defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. was carted off with a quad injury during the same game. Both players have been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The Commanders are scheduled to host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM PDT.
