Commanders' Mariota Prepared to Start Amid Daniels' Knee Injury
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is day-to-day with a knee sprain, and backup Marcus Mariota is ready to start if needed against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is considered day-to-day after sustaining a left knee sprain during last Thursday's loss to the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Dan Quinn stated that Daniels has begun the rehabilitation process and is progressing well.
Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota is preparing to start if Daniels is unable to play in Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Mariota emphasized his readiness, noting that his routine remains consistent to ensure he is prepared when called upon.
Mariota has experience stepping in for Daniels, having played in relief during two games last season, both resulting in victories. In those appearances, he completed 33 of 41 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns.
Coach Quinn emphasized the importance of Daniels' health, stating that the team will be cautious and ensure he is fully capable of performing at his usual level before returning to play.
The Commanders will provide an update on Daniels' status after Friday's practice. In the meantime, Mariota will take all first-team reps to prepare for the potential start against the Raiders.
