Health officials in Nigeria reported a confirmed Ebola infection in a woman who traveled from Uganda, prompting isolation and treatment measures.

Nigeria's health authorities have confirmed a case of Ebola in a female patient who arrived from Uganda and was admitted to a hospital in Abuja. The patient is being isolated and receiving medical care while officials monitor her condition.

The case marks the first instance in West Africa linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in East Africa, which began in the Democratic Republic of Congo in May and has resulted in over 4,600 deaths and more than 9,500 reported infections, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

Ebola, caused by the Bundibugyo species of the virus, spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. There is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment, although clinical trials are in progress.

Nigeria, which successfully contained a previous Ebola outbreak in 2014, has intensified disease surveillance. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has issued guidance requiring travelers from countries with active Ebola transmission to complete health declaration forms, while urging all visitors to remain vigilant and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms develop.

The outbreak has also affected Uganda, which reported fatalities before declaring itself free of the disease in August, and Kenya, which has recorded at least nine infections. The United States recently raised its travel advisory for Kenya due to health concerns.
