Apple prepares OLED-screen MacBook Pro with touchscreen and Dynamic Island

摘要

Apple is set to launch a new MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display, a touchscreen and a Dynamic Island, with pricing expected to exceed current models.

Apple is gearing up to release an updated MacBook Pro that will be the first Mac to use an OLED screen and incorporate a touchscreen. The device is expected to be offered in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and will retain the Pro branding, despite earlier speculation about a different name.

The redesign will likely include minor changes to the chassis, making the laptop lighter and slightly thinner, and will replace the current notch with an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. Apple plans to add a reinforced hinge to support touch interaction without wobble, and the touchscreen will complement, rather than replace, the existing trackpad and keyboard.

The OLED panels are reported to use rigid oxide TFT backplanes and tandem OLED structures, which should improve lifespan and reduce burn-in compared with single-stack panels. Apple says the OLED display will deliver richer colors, higher contrast and true blacks, though peak brightness may be lower than the current mini-LED screens.

macOS Golden Gate is being adapted for touch input, adding features such as direct touch support in Sidecar and a pull-to-refresh gesture across several apps. The new MacBook Pro will be powered by the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, as Apple accelerates the rollout of its upcoming M7 series for later models.

Pricing is expected to be higher than current MacBook Pro offerings, with the 14-inch M5 Pro model starting at $2,499 and the 16-inch version at $2,999 after a recent price increase. The higher-spec M5 Max configurations could start at $4,099 and $4,399 respectively. Apple plans a media event in Los Angeles on October 28, with the device potentially reaching stores as early as November 6.
