Meta's Upcoming Ray-Ban Smart Glasses to Feature HUD and sEMG Wristband Integration
Meta is set to unveil new Ray-Ban-branded smart glasses equipped with a heads-up display and controlled via an sEMG wristband at the upcoming Connect 2025 event.
Meta is preparing to introduce a new line of Ray-Ban-branded smart glasses featuring a heads-up display (HUD) and integration with a surface electromyography (sEMG) wristband. A recently leaked video, which has since been removed from Meta's YouTube channel, showcased the HUD being utilized for Meta AI interactions and on-foot navigation. The wristband was demonstrated enabling users to finger-swipe letters on a surface to respond to messages.
The video also revealed Meta and EssilorLuxottica's forthcoming lineup, including the regular Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, the rumored Oakley Meta Sphaera glasses, and the HUD glasses labeled as "Meta | Ray-Ban" with the word "Display" underneath.
Reports from Bloomberg, The Verge, The Information, The Financial Times, and CNBC have previously indicated Meta's plans to release smart glasses with a HUD controlled by an sEMG wristband. In July, renders of the device and its wristband were discovered in early firmware.
The decision to brand these HUD glasses under Ray-Ban comes after earlier reports suggested EssilorLuxottica had reservations about the increased thickness required for the display. However, Meta's investment of €3 billion into EssilorLuxottica, acquiring a 3% stake with potential plans to increase to 5%, may have influenced this collaboration.
The main Meta Connect 2025 keynote is scheduled to be streamed at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, with the developer keynote at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday.
