Ohio State coach says quarterback Julian Sayin out for several weeks
Head coach Ryan Day said the Buckeyes' starting quarterback will be sidelined for at least several weeks as the team enters its bye week.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day told 97.1 The Fan that junior quarterback Julian Sayin will be unavailable for "at least several weeks" after sustaining an injury against Indiana. Day said there is no further update while Sayin continues testing and medical meetings.
Sayin left the game in the fourth quarter after a sack, was taken to the locker room and later returned to the sidelines with his right arm in a sling. Freshman Luke Fahey entered for the final ten offensive snaps and completed none of his three pass attempts.
Day, who will hold his regular Tuesday press conference after practice, said the upcoming bye week is not ideal because of the idle time but noted that it provides an opportunity to focus on Sayin's recovery and get other injured players healthy.
Freshman defensive back Jay Timmons, who returned from a two-game absence, earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after recording seven tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble in the win over Indiana. He joins Jeremiah Smith, the team's offensive player who has already received two weekly conference awards this season.
