Christiane Amanpour Announces Departure from CNN After 43 Years
Veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour said she will leave CNN in June 2025, citing personal and professional considerations following the network's recent ownership change.
Christian Amanpour, who has been with CNN for more than four decades, announced Monday that she will depart the network in June 2025. In a statement, the 68-year-old journalist said she had spent months contemplating the decision and expressed gratitude for her long partnership with CNN, adding that she looks forward to new projects while continuing to support the outlet’s tradition of independent journalism.
The announcement comes weeks after Paramount Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, prompting speculation about the impact of the new ownership on the newsroom. Amanpour previously voiced concerns about the corporate transition and the direction of other media properties under Skydance’s leadership.
CNN chairman Mark Thompson confirmed the news in an internal memo, saying Amanpour had carefully considered her decision and that the network will honor her contributions before her departure.
Amanpour, known for her reporting from conflict zones and her interview program on CNN International, has faced health challenges, including a recurrence of ovarian cancer diagnosed in 2021. Her salary and the broader cost-cutting measures being explored by the new owners have also been mentioned in media reports as possible factors in her exit.
