Giants evaluate quarterback options ahead of Week 7 matchup
Head coach John Harbaugh said the team is reviewing who will start at quarterback after J.J. McCarthy's strong performance in the recent loss to the Saints.
The New York Giants are assessing their quarterback situation before facing the Houston Texans in Week 7. Coach John Harbaugh indicated that the decision is still under review, noting that the staff is "working through that now — honing in on a decision" when asked about starter Jameis Winston.
Harbaugh explained that the choice will be based on which combination of players and schemes offers the best chance to move the ball, score points and protect the football. "All the things that help us win," he said, adding that the team will consider what furthers its success.
Winston has started four of five games since Jaxson Dart's injury, completing 57 percent of his passes for 957 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. In the loss to the New Orleans Saints, he threw for 152 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions before being replaced by rookie J.J. McCarthy, who completed 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards, a touchdown and an interception, sparking three scoring drives in the fourth quarter.
The coaching staff will continue to evaluate performance and game plan factors before naming a starter for the upcoming contest.
