Sedgwick County DA to Review Fatal Stryker Sports Complex Crash After Driver Released

Summary

The district attorney will conduct an initial review of the crash that killed a child and a man, while the driver remains out of custody pending test results.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced it will conduct an initial review of the crash at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita that left two people dead and multiple injured. Police identified the victims as 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer of McPherson. Ten additional individuals were treated for injuries, and one person experienced a medical condition unrelated to the impact.

The driver, a 34-year-old woman from Garden City who was in the truck with two children, was released from police custody after authorities confirmed she held a valid driver’s license and had no active warrants. She remains out of custody while toxicology results and a mechanical inspection of the vehicle are completed.

Wichita police emphasized that the department will be the sole source of confirmed information about the incident. The Sedgerson County Sheriff’s Office also refuted an online rumor suggesting a local deputy was involved in the crash.
