Nor'easter Brings Gusty Winds and Coastal Flooding Threat to Jersey Shore

Resumen

A slow-moving nor'easter will generate wind gusts up to 35 mph and trigger minor to moderate coastal flooding along New Jersey's shoreline through midweek, with conditions improving by the weekend.

A nor'easter that formed off the Carolina coast is expected to linger offshore while moving slowly northeast, bringing gusty winds and coastal flooding to the Jersey Shore for several days. The National Weather Service warned that wind gusts could reach 35 mph along the shoreline and 15-25 mph inland, creating conditions for minor to moderate flooding in coastal communities, including the Delaware Bay.

A coastal flood advisory has been issued for Ocean, southeastern Burlington, Atlantic and Cape May counties from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, with officials noting that Wednesday evening’s high tide poses the greatest risk of widespread tidal flooding.

Monday will be mostly dry and sunny with temperatures in the low- to mid-60s, while Tuesday and Wednesday highs are expected to stay in the 60s statewide. Precipitation chances are low, with only a slight possibility of isolated showers along the coast from Tuesday through Thursday. The storm is forecast to move out to sea by Thursday, and weather conditions are projected to improve heading into late Friday and the weekend.
