Christiane Amanpour to Depart CNN in June After 43 Years
Chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour announced she will leave CNN in June, ending a 43-year tenure with the network.
Christian Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, said Monday she will sign off from the network in June, concluding a 43-year partnership. In a statement she said she has decided to separate from CNN after many months of thought and a few sleepless nights.
"I look forward to interesting new projects down the line, and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism," Amanpour added. Amanpour, 68, has hosted her eponymous nightly interview program on CNN International since 2009. After scaling back her schedule in January 2025, she will reduce the show to once a week in January 2027 and end it in May, while continuing to report and travel for the network through June. CNN chairman Mark Thompson confirmed the decision in a memo to staff, saying Amanpour has thought carefully about it and that the timing is right both personally and professionally. He described her as "one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere" and said the network will celebrate her contributions before her departure. "On behalf of the entire CNN leadership team, I want to thank Christiane for 43 years of remarkable journalism, loyalty and friendship," Thompson wrote. Amanpour thanked the people she has worked with, highlighting her experiences covering conflicts such as the First Gulf War, the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran. She noted that teamwork and a commitment to factual reporting have been central to CNN's coverage. Her PBS program, "Amanpour & Company," is scheduled to end in December.
