Christiane Amanpour to Depart CNN After 43-Year Tenure

Summary

Christiane Amanpour will scale back her duties and leave CNN entirely by June 2025, ending a 43-year career with the network.

CNN announced that veteran anchor and foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour will reduce her on-air responsibilities over the coming months and exit the network in June 2025. The decision was disclosed in a memo from CNN chief executive Mark Thompson, who said Amanpour had considered the move carefully and that he respects her timing both personally and professionally.

Amanpour, who has been with CNN for 43 years, said in a statement, "After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!" She added that she will conclude her daily programs on CNN and PBS at the end of the year, maintain a weekly show on CNN until May, and assist with a transition through June.

The announcement follows Skydance’s recent acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which placed CNN under new ownership. Amanpour previously voiced concerns about the takeover, noting uncertainty about its impact on journalistic independence.

While her CNN International program will wind down by next May, Amanpour will continue to host the podcast "The Ex Filed," co-hosted with Jamie Rubin, a project produced outside CNN. She thanked colleagues and field crews for their collaboration throughout her career, citing coverage of major conflicts and events worldwide.
