College football power rankings reshaped after week 7 upsets

Ամփոփում

Week 7 saw historic swings in the AP Top 25, with five of the seven ranked teams losing and several top programs dropping in the latest power rankings.

Week 7 produced a seismic shift in college football, as five of the seven teams in the AP Top 25 poll were defeated – the most losses by that group in poll history. The upsets included Michigan’s backup quarterback Tommy Carr leading a win over Penn State, Georgia falling to Auburn on a last-second field goal, and Texas suffering consecutive defeats.

Ohio State’s starting quarterback Julian Sayin was injured in a 19-15 victory over Indiana, prompting coach Ryan Day to announce that Sayin will be out for "several weeks" and that true freshman Luke Fahey will take over the role. > "We’ll use the bye week to retool the offense for Luke," Day said.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said the Longhorns must "evaluate everything" after their back-to-back losses. > "Everything is on the table to get us back on track," Sarkisian added.

In the updated rankings, Miami moved to the top spot after a double-overtime win over Florida State, while BYU climbed to second after a 28-4 record and a late-game comeback against Notre Dame. Ohio State fell to third amid the quarterback change, and Georgia dropped to fourth following the Auburn loss.

Other notable moves included Notre Dame slipping to fifth after a red-zone-poor performance against BYU, UCLA rising to sixth as the last unbeaten team in the Big Ten and SEC, and Indiana falling to seventh after a narrow loss to Ohio State.

The Big 12 benefited from the week’s results, positioning multiple teams for playoff contention, and Oregon’s quarterback Dylan Raiola helped the Ducks stay in the CFP conversation with a bench-led rally over his former team, Nebraska.

Overall, the week’s outcomes underscore the growing parity in college football and set the stage for a tightly contested race to the postseason.
