Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Earns $15 Million in Opening Weekend

摘要

The three-hour documentary "You Can See Everything" generated $15 million from 855 screens, becoming the top-grossing film on fewer than 1,000 theaters this weekend.

The Elizabeth Holmes documentary "You Can See Everything" earned $15 million in its opening weekend, despite playing on only 855 screens, according to distributor A24. The film recorded more than 2,000 sell-out showings and posted the strongest opening for a sub-1,000-screen release since 2006. Over 70% of the audience was under 35, reflecting a younger demographic trend seen in other recent hits.

Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the three-hour documentary was produced in secret over three years. Fielder spent time with Holmes, her family and partner Billy Evans before her incarceration. Critical response has been overwhelmingly positive, with a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 99 on Metacritic, and audience surveys reported a 91% "definite recommend" score.

"Everybody underestimated the movie, because on paper this is like, wait, a three-hour documentary?" said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends for Rentrak. "But he (Fielder) is a huge draw, and he has a huge following on social media, and then Elizabeth Holmes is just a character that you couldn’t even make up. It’s stranger than fiction, and that’s really compelling."

The documentary’s production cost was reported to be under $7 million, with marketing expenses below $10 million. It ranked second behind Paramount’s "Street Fighter," which led the domestic box office with $31 million from 3,575 theaters.

Overall, the weekend generated about $101.6 million in ticket sales, a 45% increase from the same period last year, and the year-to-date total reached $8.2 billion, up nearly 20% from 2025.
