Kings announce Ben Simmons will miss 2026-27 season after Achilles tear
The Sacramento Kings said forward Ben Simmons suffered a torn right Achilles and will undergo surgery, ruling him out for the entire 2026-27 NBA season.
The Sacramento Kings reported Sunday that forward Ben Simmons tore his right Achilles tendon during a preseason workout. The 30-year-old will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2026-27 season.
Simmons, who missed the 2025-26 campaign after not playing for any team, had been averaging 10.5 points, four rebounds and four assists in two preseason games and was projected to start when the Kings open the season against the Los Angeles Clippers.
"When you have done something your whole life and so you're used to it, that is a big part of who I am," Simmons said in an interview with Andscape in October. "I know what I am without it now. But I also know it's a huge part of my life now. I'm just being grateful for being able to compete and play. And also knowing when this is done I have another part of my life, which is cool."
