Patriots lose receiver Romeo Doubs to shoulder injury in win over Jets

Résumé

Patriot wide receiver Romeo Doubs exited the 26-19 victory over the New York Jets with a shoulder injury, joining several other players sidelined by injuries ahead of the team's Thursday game in Chicago.

Patriot wide receiver Romeo Doubs left Sunday’s 26-19 win against the New York Jets after diving to catch a 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Drake Maye. The play, which occurred with 4:10 left in the first quarter, resulted in a hard landing on his shoulder. Doubs, who reached a top speed of 21.44 mph on the play, was initially listed as questionable for a return but was ruled out early in the third quarter.

The Patriots, who signed Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March, also dealt with injuries to other starters. Left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a hamstring strain in the second quarter and was ruled out, while right tackle Morgan Moses left with an ankle injury and was later listed as out for the fourth quarter. Guard/center Ben Brown exited in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.

A.J. Brown, the team’s other top receiver, returned to action after missing Week 1 with an ankle injury. Coach Mike Vrabel said he did not have definitive updates on the injured players and expressed uncertainty about their availability for the upcoming Thursday game in Chicago.

"We are all smart people here; it's a short week," Vrabel said. "Whether they can make it back or not, I don't know. They didn't finish [this] game and that's a quick turnaround."
