Miami projected to top Coaches Poll after weekend upsets

A series of losses by several top-ranked teams could elevate Miami to the No. 1 spot in the upcoming US LBM Coaches Poll, while Ohio State and BYU also contend for the top positions.

After a weekend in which five of the eight teams previously ranked in the top ten lost, analysts expect Miami to ascend to No. 1 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, the first time the Hurricanes have held the top spot since the penultimate poll of the 2002 season. Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, Texas and Alabama were among the teams that fell, while Miami secured a 43-35 double-overtime victory over Florida State.

Ohio State, which held the No. 1 ranking before a recent loss to Texas, remains a strong candidate for the top position after wins over Iowa and Indiana, though a quarterback injury may affect its prospects. Brigham Young, unbeaten and with a recent win over Notre Dame, is projected to enter the top five for the first time since 1996.

Georgia, despite a 28-24 loss to Auburn after leading early, is expected to drop three spots to No. 4. Notre Dame, Indiana, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Utah and Tennessee round out the projected top ten, each with varying recent performances and challenges.

The predicted rankings reflect the volatility of the current college football landscape, with several teams poised to move up or down based on recent results and upcoming schedules.
