Rain delay pushes back ALCS Game 4 in Cleveland
Major League Baseball announced a rain delay for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, leaving the start time undecided as officials assess conditions.
Major League Baseball announced a rain delay for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians, moving the scheduled 8:08 p.m. ET start time to an undetermined later hour. The decision comes as forecasts predict showers, temperatures in the low-50s and wind gusts up to 37 mph in Cleveland on Friday night.
The league said it will provide updates on field preparation and any further adjustments as information becomes available.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters before 5 p.m. ET that the game remained on the schedule, but confirmed that MLB would discuss the weather situation with both teams at 6 p.m. ET.
AccuWeather projected a 70% chance of precipitation around the original start time, with rain expected to continue into the early evening and wind gusts reaching 33-37 mph. Officials had previously considered moving the game to an earlier slot on Thursday to avoid severe conditions, and they are now weighing whether to postpone the contest entirely to preserve the series schedule and a travel day before a potential Game 6 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Cleveland leads the series 2-1 heading into the delayed game.
