Police intervene as crowds surround Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Nottingham
Police broke up crowds that blocked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's vehicle during their first joint official engagement in Nottingham, England.
Police were called to disperse crowds that had gathered around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Range Rover and blocked the vehicle's exit during their first joint official outing in Nottingham on Thursday. Officers instructed the onlookers to move back and keep a safe distance.
The royal couple visited the children’s charity Epic Partners on Edale Road after attending an acting workshop at the Community Recording Studio and meeting members of the Hubb Community Kitchen at the Himmah Hub food bank. Police presence was also reported around the charity venue.
The outing marked the first joint engagement since the couple returned to the United Kingdom in August, where they have been residing with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. King Charles has stated that the pair will act as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests rather than working royals.
"Please keep moving back and give space," a police spokesperson told the crowd, according to a royal correspondent present at the scene.
The visit follows a series of public appearances by the couple since their return, including charitable events and social outings.
