Anna Faris said she was hurt by Chuck Lorre's remarks about his earlier reluctance to cast her on "Mom," while reaffirming her gratitude for the show and her personal sobriety.

Actress Anna Faris responded on Instagram after series co-creator Chuck Lorre wrote in his memoir that his initial hesitation to cast her in the lead role on the CBS sitcom "Mom" was "correct." Faris said the comments surprised her and caused pain, but she emphasized her appreciation for the job and the years she spent on the series.

"Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn't see that coming. Of course it hurts," Faris wrote.

She added that she is proud of the work she did with the show, thanked the cast and crew, and noted that she has been sober for a year and a half, describing her current health and happiness. Faris encouraged anyone facing similar challenges, saying, "It gets better. I'm proof."

Lorre, known for creating series such as "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory," explained in the memoir that he was initially unsure whether Faris was suitable for the material, later referencing his past conflict with Charlie Sheen as a comparison. He wrote that the mother character in "Mom" should be Faris and that his early reluctance proved accurate after six years, when she left the show.

"Mom" aired from 2013 to 2021 with Faris in the lead role before the series shifted to an ensemble format for its final season. The show received 13 Emmy nominations, and co-star Allison Janney won two awards for supporting actress.
