Anna Faris Announces Year-and-a-Half Sobriety Amid Chuck Lorre Memoir Comments
Actress Anna Faris disclosed a 18-month period of sobriety in an Instagram post, responding to Chuck Lorre’s memoir remarks about her departure from the sitcom "Mom."
Actress Anna Faris used an Instagram post on Thursday to share that she has been sober for a year and a half, saying the experience has improved her health and happiness. She added that she hopes her story can help others in similar situations.
Her statement follows the October 13 release of Chuck Lorre’s memoir "Sitcom," in which the "Mom" co-creator attributes Faris’s exit from the CBS comedy to "mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show."
"Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn't see that coming. Of course it hurts," Faris wrote in response, noting her gratitude for the seven years she spent on the series and the opportunities it provided. Lorre did not comment when contacted through a representative.
Faris left "Mom" in September 2020, prior to the series’ eighth and final season, after previously describing the role as one of the most rewarding of her career. In his book, Lorre recounts initial doubts about casting Faris as a single mother in recovery, later stating that personal matters should not influence casting decisions. He later reiterated his earlier hesitation, suggesting that her departure was foreseeable, though he offered no further details.
Co-creator Gemma Baker previously said the production respected Faris’s decision to leave, allowing the character’s storyline to conclude with a graduation from Georgetown Law School. Lorre also reflected on the show’s evolution toward themes of women supporting each other in recovery, and criticized CBS for ending the series.
