Tesla to unveil delayed next-generation Roadster at Texas livestream event
Tesla will livestream a showcase of its long-delayed next-generation Roadster from a SpaceX test site in Texas, with details on pricing and production expected.
Tesla announced that it will livestream a presentation of its next-generation Roadster on Thursday from a SpaceX test facility in McGregor, Texas, beginning at 7:55 a.m. local time (8:55 a.m. ET). The event follows nearly a decade of postponed timelines since the company began accepting $50,000 deposits for the model in 2017.
The new Roadster is described as a high-end, low-volume sports car that will incorporate SpaceX technology, including cold-gas thrusters that could enhance acceleration, braking and potentially enable limited hovering capability. Executives are expected to reveal specific pricing, production targets and other technical details during the livestream.
Tesla reopened reservations for the refreshed Roadster in recent weeks, accepting deposits from buyers in the United States, Canada and China. Lawrence O'Connor, founder and CEO of Other World Computing, said he reserved a Founder's Edition in 2017 and plans to attend the event.
The Federal Aviation Administration filings indicate a temporary no-fly zone around the SpaceX site for the demonstration, and a previous attempt to stage a demo on Oct. 1 was cancelled due to weather. Tesla is slated to release its third-quarter earnings after the market close on Wednesday.
