Zelensky Rejects Trump-Backed Energy Ceasefire, Resumes Drone Strikes on Russian Facilities

Resumen

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his forces will resume attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, rejecting a cease-fire urged by President Donald Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kyiv will no longer observe the "energy ceasefire" promoted by President Donald Trump and has resumed drone strikes on Russian oil facilities, including a recent hit on an installation in the Ryazan region.

Zelensky told the Financial Times that Ukraine is "done" with the ceasefire after Russia continued attacks on Ukrainian power plants, which have killed more than 100 civilians and left hundreds of thousands without electricity. He also criticized Trump for expressing admiration for authoritarian leaders, saying the U.S. president "speaks about it openly and loudly that he loves such people and he respects such people."

The ceasefire was announced by Trump in a social-media post without consultation with Kyiv or Moscow. Zelensky said the Trump administration pressured Ukraine to accept the pause by threatening to withhold intelligence sharing, which he claimed led to disruptions in missile-alert systems and reduced access to Elon Musk’s Starlink service.

Trump has denied cutting off intelligence support, and White House officials attributed the alert-system issues to technical glitches. Musk later posted on X that the Starlink network used by Ukrainian forces is "owned and controlled by the U.S. government" and that any usage limits are set by the U.S. military.

The dispute marks a heightened tension between the United States and its ally in the Russia-Ukraine war, following a previous confrontation in the Oval Office earlier this year.
