Oregon lists Dante Moore as unavailable for upcoming game against Nebraska

Résumé

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore is out for Saturday's matchup with Nebraska, prompting head coach Dan Lanning to evaluate a competition between Dylan Raiola and Brock Thomas.

Oregon announced that quarterback Dante Moore will not play in Saturday's game against Nebraska, marking his second consecutive absence. The Ducks, coming off a loss to UCLA that dropped them out of the AP poll, are facing increased pressure to secure a win.

Head coach Dan Lanning said the team is reviewing all aspects of its offensive performance after the UCLA defeat, but declined to detail any specific changes before the Nebraska game. He noted that the decision on which quarterback will start will be based on recent practice performance and overall effectiveness.

Raiola, who stepped in for Moore during the UCLA game, completed six of 19 passes for 43 yards and threw two interceptions before being replaced by Brock Thomas in the second half. Thomas then threw for 149 yards and a touchdown, nearly leading a comeback.

"[Saturday's performance] all plays into effect, and the body of work this week all plays into effect. The question was asked of me why not make the change sooner after the game; I think that's fair," Lanning said. "On the same note, I think some of the positions we put [Raiola] in weren't successful opportunities as well."

Lanning added that ball security is a key factor in the quarterback decision and acknowledged Raiola's strong showing against USC earlier in the season.

The coach also hinted that the play-calling responsibilities for Saturday could shift, though he did not specify who might assume that role. Nebraska's familiarity with Raiola, having started him for two seasons, adds another strategic element to Oregon's quarterback selection.
