Trump Appeals Judge's Injunction Halting White House Media Ban

सारांश

President Trump has appealed a district judge's preliminary injunction that blocks the administration from revoking White House press passes for CNN, Politico and MS NOW, citing likely First Amendment and due-process violations.

President Donald Trump filed a notice of appeal to the D.C. Circuit challenging U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly's preliminary injunction that temporarily halted the administration's ban on CNN, Politico and MS NOW from White House press areas. Judge Kelly, a Trump appointee, ruled that the media outlets were likely to succeed on claims that the ban infringed their due-process and First Amendment rights, and he issued the injunction just before a prior temporary restraining order was set to expire.

The White House responded that the ruling was "misguided," with a spokesperson adding, "> The Fake News has no place demanding a spot in the President’s Oval Office. The lies they smear are a disservice to the American public and tear at the very fabric of our Democracy. They’re completely capable of reporting from directly outside."

Trump announced the ban in a social-media post on Sept. 18. The three outlets sued the administration the following Monday, prompting Judge Kelly to grant a temporary restraining order a few days later and later issue the preliminary injunction. The injunction will remain in effect until a trial or a contrary appellate ruling.
