Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson faces charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old and is survived by his wife and two children.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson is "not cooperating" with investigators, and authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
Robinson's father recognized him from photos released by authorities and confronted him. Robinson admitted to being the person in the photos and initially refused to turn himself in, expressing a preference to die by suicide. His father, with the assistance of a youth pastor who is also a court security officer, contacted the U.S. Marshals Service, leading to Robinson's arrest.
Investigators have found bullet casings at the scene with engravings such as "Hey, fascist! Catch!" and references to the anti-fascist anthem "Bella Ciao."
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are expected to file formal charges against Robinson in the coming days.
