Collin Gosselin recounts mother's remarks during sole visit to mental health facility
In his memoir, Collin Gosselin describes a brief meeting with his mother Kate Gosselin at a mental health facility, during which she told him he had broken the family.
Collin Gosselin, 22, wrote in his new memoir that his mother, Kate Gosselin, visited him once while he was a patient at a mental health facility at age 12. He said she appeared disappointed and expressed concern about his weight, noting that she had previously warned her children about healthy eating. The meeting included a brief hug, after which Collin told his mother he missed her, but she did not respond.
According to Collin, the attending doctor noted that the teenager had "lashed out" a few times and was "responding well to the program." After the doctor left, Collin presented his mother with origami gifts for his siblings, which she declined to accept. He later asked to return home, but she told him it would not be appropriate and said his siblings were doing better without him.
During the conversation, Kate reportedly said, "You are here because of you. You broke our family," a comment Collin said caused him to become emotional. The doctor reentered the room, and Kate left shortly thereafter. A nurse escorted Collin back to his room, marking the only time his mother visited him at the facility.
Collin's memoir also references earlier statements from Kate, who in 2023 said she placed him in the facility after outpatient treatment proved insufficient, citing safety concerns for the family and his well-being. In a 2025 interview, Collin claimed the decision was also linked to his reluctance to appear on the family’s reality show. He later left the facility after his father, Jon Gosselin, obtained legal and physical custody.
