Speed limits on Starlink disrupt Ukrainian frontline communications, adviser says

摘要

Ukraine reports that overnight speed restrictions on SpaceX's Starlink network have hampered drone operations and logistics on the front line, amid ongoing Russian missile attacks.

Ukraine's defence ministry confirmed that SpaceX imposed a speed limit of 160 km/h (100 mph) on Starlink terminals overnight, causing loss of connectivity for fast-moving vehicles and assets. The restriction, noted by presidential adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, has disrupted drone interceptors, strike drones, frontline logistics, reconnaissance and signal relaying.

"It is clear that this action cannot be a coincidence and is related to the current political situation," Beskrestnov wrote on Telegram.

The limitation follows a series of Russian missile and drone strikes that left at least 600,000 Ukrainians without electricity and resulted in civilian casualties in Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted damage to critical energy infrastructure in the capital and Kharkiv, contradicting President Donald Trump's claim of an "energy ceasefire" between the parties.

Ukrainian officials said the speed cap makes it harder to guide drones to Russian targets, a capability previously described as vital for protecting Ukrainian airspace. A defence ministry source told the BBC that the root cause of the issue is still under investigation.

SpaceX has not commented on the restrictions. The United States has denied reports that it is withholding intelligence from Ukraine, while Russia claimed to have shot down hundreds of Ukrainian drones over its territory.

The developments come as Zelensky prepares to meet UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to discuss additional air-defence supplies, and as both sides continue to exchange accusations over ceasefire commitments.
