Zelenskyy says Kyiv received no warning before Russian missile strike

Resumen

Ukraine's president said the latest Russian attack on Kyiv came without prior intelligence warning, while U.S. officials affirmed continued intelligence sharing.

Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv, deploying more than 100 drones and five ballistic missiles, catching Ukrainian defenses off guard, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday. He highlighted that early warning of missile launches is crucial for saving lives, but noted that no advance notice was received for this strike.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine has not carried out attacks on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector since the U.S. President announced an energy ceasefire, urging the United States to lead peace talks.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that both Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire and said the United States continues to share intelligence with Kyiv. Press secretary Katie Zacharia said she would follow up on questions about intelligence sharing, while Trump reiterated that the United States is helping to bring the conflict to a resolution.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha told the Warsaw Security Forum that intelligence sharing through the Battlespace Command and Control Center, operated by the United States and NATO allies, remains ongoing. Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ignat said the missile-warning system has experienced technical issues in the past and that specialists are working with partners to resolve any problems.

An anonymous official said the United States attributed the lack of warning to adverse weather, a rationale Kyiv finds unsatisfactory. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov responded to the energy-ceasefire discussion by stating he does not believe Zelenskyy deserves a pause in fighting.

The Russian government issued a statement saying its strikes targeted military and weapons-production facilities across Ukraine, but provided no comment on the specific ballistic missile attack.
