Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson faces possible suspension after post-game altercation

Summary

Alaric Jackson may be suspended following a post-game punch to Bills defensive end Bradley Chubb, with the league likely referencing a similar prior case involving Brian Branch.

The Los Angeles Rams could be without left tackle Alaric Jackson for Sunday’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals after the player was involved in a post-game incident with Buffalo Bills defensive end Bradley Chubb. Jackson struck Chubb after the game had concluded, when Chubb’s helmet was off and Jackson had removed his shoulder pads and jersey.

The incident mirrors a disciplinary precedent set last year when the NFL suspended Lions safety Brian Branch for one game after he hit Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster with an open hand to the facemask in the immediate aftermath of a game. In a letter to Branch, NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan wrote:

"Your aggressive, non-football act was entirely unwarranted, posed a serious risk of injury, and clearly violated the standards of conduct and sportsmanship expected of NFL players. Your conduct reflected poorly on the NFL and has no place in our game."

If the league applies its Personal Conduct Policy, which bars violent or threatening behavior toward any employee or third party in a workplace setting, Jackson could face discipline beyond a single-game suspension, given his prior violation. Officials are expected to announce any punishment in the coming days.
