Dodgers weigh benching Ohtani for NLCS Game 3
Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts is considering removing Shohei Ohtani from the lineup for Game 3 of the NLCS as the player struggles with injuries and reduced performance.
The Los Angeles Dodgers face a decision on whether to keep Shohei Ohtani in the lineup for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. Ohtani has recorded three singles in 20 at-bats and went 0-4 with two strikeouts in the series-opening loss, and his recent right-biceps issue and a left-knee injury have limited his effectiveness. Manager Dave Roberts said he will discuss the matter with Ohtani during the team’s travel day before deciding on his role for the upcoming game.
If Ohtani is sidelined, the Dodgers could give a first-career playoff start to 21-year-old prospect Josue De Paula, who has contributed key walks in recent postseason appearances. De Paula, primarily an outfielder, has been used as a designated hitter during the regular season and posted a 27-home-run, .303/.401/.547 slash line in Double-A this year.
