New England coach Mike Vrabel said there is a chance wide receiver A.J. Brown will be cleared to practice this week, with the team targeting a Week 6 return.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel indicated that there is a possibility A.J. Brown will be cleared to practice later this week, aiming for a return in Week 6 against the Jets. Brown suffered a high-ankle sprain in the season opener and has been on injured reserve since then. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels told reporters he does not expect further delays in Brown’s comeback, and the team believes the receiver could be ready for the upcoming game.

The Patriots have relied on Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins and Demario Douglas to fill the void, with Doubs expected to assume a larger role as the primary target for quarterback Drake Maye. Hollins has seen an increase in route volume, while Douglas led the team with seven targets in Week 1.

"MRI today after X-rays were negative," said Patriots spokesperson Garafolo, noting the medical update but offering no specific timeline.

"Everything was going to be alright," reported Romeo Doubs, quoting Brown’s reassurance to teammates after the injury.

Analysts have revised earlier estimates of a six-to-eight-week absence, suggesting a three-to-six-week window based on Brown’s progress. Nonetheless, the exact return date remains uncertain, and the Patriots will continue to rely on their other receivers until Brown is fully cleared.
