Top fantasy waiver-wire targets for Week 6 include Germie Bernard and Dameon Pierce

Fantasy analyst Justin Boone highlights several under-rostered players, such as WR Germie Bernard and RB Dameon Pierce, as priority pickups for Week 6.

Justin Boone, writing for Yahoo Sports, outlined his recommended waiver-wire pickups for fantasy football managers heading into Week 6. He focused on players rostered in fewer than half of Yahoo leagues and used a $100 free-agent budget model to rank options.

Among the top-10 overall targets, Boone listed Steelers wide receiver Germie Bernard, who posted six catches for 80 yards in Week 5 after injuries sidelined Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson. Boone noted that Bernard ran 94% of his routes and earned praise from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making him a viable WR3 with upside while the starters remain unavailable.

Running back Dameon Pierce of the Eagles was highlighted as a low-end RB2 candidate. With Saquon Barkley dealing with a hamstring injury and other backs on the depth chart injured, Pierce is expected to start against Jacksonville. Boone cited Pierce’s 2022 rookie season of 1,104 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns as evidence of his potential when given a larger role.

Other notable picks include Giants quarterback Jameis Winston, who has recorded at least 250 passing yards and three touchdowns in each of his last two games, and Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins, projected to benefit from a short week and a favorable Bills defense matchup. Boone described both as one-week streamers rather than season-long solutions.

For tight ends, Boone recommended Jaguars’ Brenton Strange, who has posted consecutive top-12 fantasy finishes with high target volumes, and Steelers’ Pat Freiermuth, who has scored two touchdowns in his most recent game. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne of the Cardinals was also mentioned as a solid WR4/flex option following the trade of Marvin Harrison Jr.

Boone provided additional streaming and stash options across positions, including risky picks such as Aaron Rodgers (TB) and Daniel Jones (NYG), as well as deep-bench players like Fernando Mendoza and Carson Beck. He also listed defensive and kicker units that are currently popular on waiver wires.

"While you're never going to feel comfortable starting him, the results have been there with at least 250 yards and three touchdowns in each of his past two outings," Boone wrote about Jameis Winston.

"You can expect the veteran to rebound in Week 6 against a Bills defense that's been a plus-matchup for fantasy QBs," he added regarding Kirk Cousins.

Boone’s analysis is based on roster percentages from Yahoo leagues and aims to help managers identify low-ownership players who could provide a competitive edge in the upcoming week.
