Trump claims Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy ceasefire amid ongoing attacks
President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine reached an "energy ceasefire," but Ukrainian officials reported continued strikes on energy facilities.
U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate "energy ceasefire" and urged both sides not to break it. The statement provided no details about the arrangement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv welcomed the announcement but noted that Russian drones and glide-bomb attacks continued to target energy infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv, including a power plant hit that evening. He said Ukraine was prepared to refrain from striking Russian energy sites if Moscow halted its attacks and called on President Trump to press the Kremlin for compliance.
"We are asking President Trump to give them a signal, not to attack energy infrastructure of Ukraine," Zelenskyy told ABC's "This Week."
Moscow did not comment on the ceasefire claim. Ukrainian officials described Russia's strategy of targeting power, heat and water supplies as an effort to weaken civilian resistance during the winter months.
The ceasefire claim follows previous statements by Trump in September that both sides had agreed not to hit each other's energy facilities, a proposal that produced no observable change on the ground.
Separately, Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex data center in Vladimir, disrupting services for users in several Russian-aligned countries. Yandex reported the facility was completely shut down but no injuries occurred.
In other developments, a Russian bombing in Zaporizhzhia killed 23 people, including four children, and wounded more than 30, according to regional officials. A Ukrainian drone strike also resulted in a fatality in Russia's Bryansk border region.
