Three men enter Manhattan manhole early Sunday, police investigate

摘要

Police responded to a 911 call about three individuals climbing into a West 141st Street manhole in Manhattan early Sunday; the incident is under investigation.

Police were dispatched to a manhole on West 141st Street between Hamilton Place and Amsterdam Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday after a 911 call reported three men climbing into the sewer, NYPD officials said. An eyewitness said at least one of the men later emerged, entered a silver-colored vehicle and left the area, and the case remains under investigation.

Firefighters who arrived around 1:30 a.m. described the report as “unfounded.” The incident follows several recent reports of unidentified individuals accessing the city’s underground system, including a group that emerged from an Upper East Side manhole on 82nd Street on Friday and fled in a truck, and earlier incidents involving trespassers in the Upper East Side and near Madison Square Garden. Authorities have not released further details about the identities of the three men or the purpose of their entry.
