Georgia Takes Top Spot in AP Week 7 College Football Rankings
Georgia moves to number one in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after a win over Alabama, while Texas drops to seventh and LSU and Oregon face tighter playoff prospects.
Georgia claimed the No. 1 position in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after a 20-17 road victory over SEC rival Alabama. Texas fell from first to seventh following a 27-24 loss to Oklahoma, while Alabama remained at No. 6.
LSU slipped to No. 22 after a 35-34 overtime defeat to Kentucky, in which a missed extra point and a successful two-point conversion decided the game. Oregon dropped out of the rankings after a 27-24 loss to UCLA, with quarterback Dylan Raiola benched after a 6-of-19 performance.
Both LSU and Oregon remain in contention for a College Football Playoff berth but have limited margin for error as the season progresses. LSU faces Mississippi State, Alabama, Texas and Tennessee in upcoming games, while Oregon’s remaining schedule is considered less challenging.
In other news, Florida fell to 4-2 after a 38-19 home loss to South Carolina, ending a brief rise to eighth in the poll, its highest ranking since 2020.
