Apple to unveil HomeView smart home hub with A18 chip and four color options

Résumé

Apple plans to introduce the HomeView smart home hub at its October 13 event, featuring an A18 processor, a floating iMac-style design, and availability in multiple colors, with shipments expected in mid-November.

Apple is set to announce its new HomeView smart home hub at the October 13 "Welcome home" event, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The device will resemble the iMac G4 with a floating display mounted on a speaker base and will be powered by the company's A18 chip. A wall-mountable version with a square base will also be offered.

The speaker-base model is expected to be available in four colors—space gray, silver, starlight and pink—while the wall-mountable variant will come in silver or space gray. The hub will rely primarily on voice input, using Siri as the central interface, and will run native Apple apps without an App Store, though it may allow projection of third-party app widgets from a nearby iPhone.

Apple is also preparing updates for the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini, and has announced partnerships with appliance manufacturers such as LG to develop compatible smart thermostats, door locks and doorbells. The HomeView is anticipated to ship in the middle of November.
