Georgia defeats Alabama to claim top spot in college football rankings
Georgia beat Alabama 20-17, moving to No. 1 in the latest Top 10 poll, while Miami, Ohio State and other teams filled out the rest of the rankings after a week of upsets.
Georgia secured the No. 1 ranking after a 20-17 victory over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, giving coach Kirby Smart his first regular-season win against the Crimson Tide in a decade. Quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 248 yards and the Bulldogs rushed for 206 yards, dominating the line of scrimmage.
Miami moved to No. 2 despite a bye week, with analysts on ESPN’s College GameDay citing the Hurricanes as the nation’s best team. Ohio State claimed the third spot after a 45-16 win over Maryland, highlighted by Julian Sayin’s third consecutive three-touchdown performance.
Alabama fell to fourth after the loss to Georgia, though the program remains in playoff contention. Notre Dame, Texas, Indiana, UCLA, Tennessee and Missouri rounded out the Top 10, each reflecting recent victories or notable performances during Week 6 of the season.
The rankings also noted significant wins across conferences, including Missouri’s 27-6 win over Texas A&M and Oklahoma’s game-winning field goal against Texas in the Red River Rivalry.
