Samsung begins Android 17 rollout for Galaxy phones and tablets
Samsung has started delivering its Android 17-based One UI 9 update to a range of Galaxy smartphones and tablets, adding design tweaks, AI features and expanded customization options.
Samsung announced that the Android 17-based One UI 9 update is now being rolled out to supported Galaxy devices worldwide. The company said the upgrade builds on the redesign introduced with One UI 7 and refined in the Android 16-based One UI 8, offering modest visual changes and new AI-driven functions.
Key additions include a warranty and Samsung Care status screen in Settings, broader availability of the Now Nudge assistant, automatic video cropping in My FanCam, more customization options for the Quick Panel, AI-generated privacy alerts, and enhancements to Samsung DeX. The lock screen now features adaptable clock designs that match the wallpaper.
The update is currently available on flagship models such as the Galaxy S26 series, the Galaxy S25 series (with wider rollout), and select S25 variants. Limited-availability releases are also being made for the Galaxy S24 line, the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series, and the Galaxy A57. Samsung has not provided a detailed timeline for the full rollout.
The changelog lists several AI-related improvements, such as expanded Now Nudge suggestions across the interface, and a new Focus feature that keeps a selected subject centered in video recordings. Productivity enhancements include more flexible Quick Panel layout and a shortcut for quickly locking the device using volume and side buttons.
Privacy and security updates add a location-access indicator, AI-driven alerts for risky app behavior, and stronger blocking of malicious software. Samsung Health receives a redesign with clearer charts, new health-tracking cards, and expanded sleep and heart-health metrics. Bixby gains a gesture activation method and a home-screen widget, while accessibility receives new text-spotlight, keyboard shortcuts and improved TalkBack updates.
The company continues to update the device list as the rollout progresses.
