Attack at Riyadh's King Khalid Airport Injures Several, Halts Flights

सारांश

An explosion at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh wounded multiple people and forced a temporary suspension of airport operations, prompting airlines to cancel or divert flights.

An explosion at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday injured several individuals and led the Saudi civil aviation authority to suspend airport operations. The incident occurred without an immediate claim of responsibility, but it follows a recent increase in missile strikes by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi forces against Saudi targets.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing an explosion, a ceiling collapse near a departure gate, and ambulances rushing to the scene. Flight-tracking data showed that all scheduled flights to Riyadh were either diverted or cancelled, with only a helicopter observed hovering over the airport.

Airlines, including Kuwait Airways, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, cancelled or suspended services to the Saudi capital, citing the security situation. The airport had already been hit in two attacks earlier in the week that resulted in four deaths, highlighting concerns about the kingdom's defensive capabilities.

"We may. We're going to look at it. We just found out about the recent attack, so we'll make a decision. We move very quickly," U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters when asked about possible U.S. involvement in Saudi actions against the Houthis.

The U.S. embassy in Riyadh advised American citizens to avoid the airport and surrounding areas. The British, Irish and Canadian embassies also issued statements acknowledging the serious incident and its impact on operations.

Despite the attack, organizers of upcoming energy and investment summits in Riyadh said the events would proceed as planned and urged participants to remain confident in security measures.
