Supernatural Thriller 'Other Mommy' Leads Friday Box Office with $12.6 Million

Universal's horror film "Other Mommy," produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and starring Jessica Chastain, earned $12.6 million from 3,365 North American theaters on Friday, positioning it at the top of the domestic box-office chart. The $18 million-budget picture, based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel "Incidents Around the House," follows a paranormal entity that assumes the form of a young girl’s mother. Chastain portrays both the real mother, Ursula, and the titular "Other Mommy," while Jay Duplass and Arabella Olivia Clark play her husband and daughter respectively. The film is projected to reach $28 million by Sunday.

The Amazon MGM psycho-thriller "Verity," adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel and featuring Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson, took second place with $4 million, and is expected to add $14.2 million by the weekend’s end. Columbia Pictures' "Resident Evil" earned $2.32 million, holding third place, and aims for a total of $8.2 million for the weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $138.37 million.

Aaron Sorkin’s corporate drama "The Social Reckoning," which dramatizes the 2021 Facebook leak investigated by whistleblower Frances Haugen, opened in fourth place with $2.15 million from 2,606 theaters and is projected to finish the weekend with $6 million domestically. Jeremy Strong portrays Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeremy Allen White plays journalist Jeff Horwitz.

Paramount Pictures' adventure film "The Heart of the Beast," starring Brad Pitt, rounded out the top five with $1.96 million, on track for a weekend total of $6.91 million and a cumulative domestic gross of $49.47 million.
